What the app stores
Hold Fast keeps the following on your device only:
- Your progress through the ninety day program, including which day you're on, completed days, and past runs
- Which tasks you've marked complete each day
- Notes you write against a task
- Your dhikr counts and the number of Quran pages you record, each day and as a lifetime total
- The reason you give when you pause, including anything you type into the Other box
- Your settings, including reminder times, notification preferences, prayer calculation preferences, and the Brother or Sister selection if you made one
- Your most recent coordinates, so prayer times still display before a new location fix arrives, and the name of the city last shown on the Qibla screen
- When your free trial started, and whether you have unlocked the app
None of this is transmitted anywhere. It lives in the app's own storage on your iPhone. Deleting the app removes it, with one deliberate exception set out under Deleting your data below.
Location
Hold Fast asks for your location so it can calculate accurate prayer times and the direction of the qibla. The calculation happens entirely on your device.
One exception is worth stating plainly. To show the name of your city on the Qibla screen, the app asks Apple's geocoding service to convert your coordinates into a place name. Your coordinates are rounded to roughly 110 metres before that request is made, which is precise enough to name a city and no more, and the answer is cached so the lookup is not repeated until you have moved several kilometres. The request goes to Apple and is handled under Apple's privacy policy. If you decline location access, or the request fails, the app simply omits the city name and continues working.
Your location is never sent to Zelma Studios LLC, because there is nowhere for it to be sent.
Notifications
Prayer reminders are scheduled locally by your iPhone. There are no push notifications, no notification server, and no device tokens.
Purchases
Hold Fast is a one time purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Apple, and Zelma Studios LLC never sees your payment details, card number, or billing address.
Whether you have unlocked the app is managed by RevenueCat, a purchase infrastructure provider that checks your receipt with Apple and tells the app what you are entitled to. That means a small amount of information does leave your device: when the app checks your purchase status, when you buy, and when you tap Restore.
- An anonymous identifier that RevenueCat generates on your device. It is a random string. There is no account and no sign in, and nothing connects it to your name, your email, or your Apple ID.
- Your App Store receipt, when you buy or restore. Apple issues it and it proves what was purchased. It carries no payment details.
- Your IP address, which is visible to any server your phone contacts and is used to work out which country you are in. Your location is never sent.
What is deliberately not sent is worth stating plainly. RevenueCat is able to collect device identifiers, including the advertising identifier (IDFA) and the vendor identifier (IDFV), and Hold Fast does not turn that on. No advertising or attribution service is connected to the app, and RevenueCat's own diagnostics reporting is switched off. None of your program data, your notes, your counts, or your coordinates are sent to RevenueCat.
What Zelma Studios LLC can see, through RevenueCat, is that an anonymous identifier bought or restored the app and roughly which country it was in. That is the whole of it. Apple separately reports aggregate sales figures.
What we don't do
- No accounts and no sign in
- No analytics or usage tracking
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers
- No third party trackers. RevenueCat, described under Purchases, verifies your purchase and does nothing else
- We do not sell, rent, or share your information
Sharing your progress
If you tap Share on the completion screen, your iPhone's share sheet opens and you choose where the image goes. Nothing is shared unless you choose to share it.
Deleting your data
Open Settings inside the app and choose Reset all data, or delete the app from your iPhone. Either one clears your program, your notes, your counts, your settings, and your stored coordinates. Since none of that was ever sent anywhere, there is nothing left for us to delete on our side.
One small record is kept on purpose, and it is worth being straightforward about it. Hold Fast stores a short summary of your run in your iPhone's keychain: when your free trial began, which day you had reached, one character per day recording which days you kept, your lifetime page and dhikr totals, and whether you have unlocked the app. It holds no notes, no coordinates, no city name, and nothing that identifies you.
The keychain is not emptied when an app is deleted, and that is the point of using it. It is what stops deleting and reinstalling from handing out a second free trial, and it is what lets someone who has already paid keep their access after reinstalling without having to find the Restore button. Reset all data leaves it alone for the same reason. Because the keychain travels in an encrypted iPhone backup, this record can also follow you to a new iPhone. It is permanent, and there is no control in the app that removes it.
Children
Hold Fast is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. The app collects no personal information from any user of any age, beyond the anonymous purchase record described under Purchases.
Changes
If a future version of Hold Fast changes how information is handled, this page will be updated and the effective date below will change. Material changes will also be noted in the App Store release notes.
